How to improve your newborn’s sleep
Set up the environment
⭐️ Keeping the room as dark as possible is really important for newborns. It helps to mimic the environment of the womb and ease their transition into the world. It also helps support the production of Melatonin which is the hormone that helps us sleep.
⭐️ Switch night lights off when not using and try and use one with a red or amber glow which is less disruptive to sleep than blue-based light.
⭐️ Invest in black out blinds. They can make a massive difference. A portable blackout blind such as @tommeetippeeuk blackout blind can be really helpful if you don’t have blinds. However, check it doesn’t increase room temperature too much.
⭐️ White noise can be useful as it helps mimic the sounds in the womb. It can also block out other noises. Keep the white noise on constantly throughout the night and not too loud. Don’t put it right next to baby’s head and put it near where you are trying to mask loud noises such as the window if there is traffic noise outside.
⭐️ Babies are born with a startle reflex and swaddling can really help if the reflex is impacting baby’s sleep. Some brands do swaddle sleep bags such as @halosleep_eu and @lovetodream. Just remember to stop using a swaddle when baby first shows signs of rolling.
